Want To Be a Volunteer? Come Prepared!

Volunteering with POWW is fun and rewarding, but you are going to get wet and dirty. Here are some things to bring.

  • An entire outfit that is able to get muddy, wet, torn, or destroyed.
  • Hard bottom soled close toed shoes that are able to get completely soaked and muddy.
  • Hat and sunscreen to keep you protected from the sun.
  • Cheap Sunglasses (you might lose these in the river).
  • A strong back, your good vibes, and an eye for trash!

If you can bring all these things then you'll have a great day with us on the GMR.
Each section will have: a Release Form to sign, a safety talk by their River Captain, and will be asked to follow the rules for the event. Parking is limited at some of the put-ins, so try to car pool.

Great Miami River Sweep

The Clean Sweep of The Great Miami River sweep is our main event of the year. We clean a section of river from Roadside Park in Sidney, Ohio to Bennett Elementary School in Piqua, Ohio. The POWW sweep is held anually on the third Saturday in July.

Volunteers are split up into 4 sections. Each of these sections has a captain, put in point, and a takeout point. The sweep begins at 8am and usually finishes around noon or 1pm. At the take out are cold drinks and lunch; usually locally donated pizzas, subs, and burgers, and a free event T-shirt. We could always use more volunteers, so if you want to help clean this wonderful local resource, sign up on our contact page.
